Blue Bloods Spinoff Boston Blue Casts Gloria Reuben In Key Role

Boston Blue, the upcoming spinoff of hit CBS procedural Blue Bloods, has cast former ER actress Gloria Reuben in a prominent role. Long-running cop drama Blue Bloods concluded its 14-season run in December 2024, and remains one of the most influential network procedurals of modern times. Blue Bloods had some great characters throughout its run, and the balance of family dynamics and crime fighting made it a big hit. Reuben, who appeared on the show back in 2021, will add some gravitas and dynamism to Boston Blue.

Per Variety, Reuben is set to play the role of Boston district attorney Mae Silver, a character described as the widow of a murdered judge, and the no-nonsense matriarch of a family of law enforcement professionals. Her daughter is a Boston police detective partnered with Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan, played by Sonequa Martin-Green.

Reuben’s casting makes a lot of sense, given her strong background in network TV, appearing in more than 100 episodes of ER, for which she received two Primetime Emmy nominations. Her pedigree is without question, but she also has the advantage of having appeared in Blue Bloods before, playing the role of ATF Agent Rachel Weber over a two-episode arc in Blue Bloods season 11.
